For international students, the application process is like the application process for domestic students, with two major exceptions. Submitting scores from the SAT or ACT is optional. If an applicant has not attended an English-speaking secondary school or college, we will ask for proof of English proficiency through the TOEFL, the IELTS or other equivalent exam. Deep Springs does not offer ESL (English as a second language) programs.
The application process for each incoming class begins in the fall. Students who apply in the fall of 2018 would matriculate at Deep Springs in the summer of 2019 if accepted.
The first round of your application will be due on November 5, 2018. In this round, we will ask for: four essays of no more than 2400 words in total, a description of your non-academic interests and activities, TOEFL/IELTS scores, demographic information, and official academic transcripts from any secondary schools, colleges, and universities you have attended.
Deep Springs College only accepts online applications. If this poses a problem for you, please contact us at apcom@deepsprings.edu. The online application is available from August until the deadline.
In mid-December, you will be notified whether or not you are invited to complete the second round of the application. The second-round application consists of several additional essays, letters of recommendation, and an interview with the Applications Committee (ApCom). Candidates chosen for the second round are encouraged to visit the college for several days in the winter, in order to interview in person and learn first-hand about what it is like to be a student at Deep Springs. However, if a visit is not possible, remote interviews can be arranged over the phone.
